Decision on 56th and K-61 work coming soon

Official with K-DOT hope to have a better idea of when they can proceed with construction of the K-61 interchanges at east 56th avenue soon.

Meetings were being held Thursday to discuss unexpected problems that surfaced with the project. The work, which is part of the new four lane highway, was suddenly put on hold last month when it was discovered that a relocated pipe line was not buried deep enough to allow for construction to start.

Once the that portion of the work gets under way, 56th will be closed in the area for several months, diverting all traffic to east 43rd Traffic signals have been installed at 43rd and K61, and will be activated when the work gets under way. The schedule of the 56th avenue interchange work will also affect the closing of east 30th so work crews can tie in the four lanes south of that intersection.
