Décor Wedding and Party Supplies planning to close

Another local business is planning on closing their doors later this fall.

Décor Wedding and Party Supplies has set a tentative date of Halloween, or the end of October to close the store, however, the owners would be willing to sell the business to someone if someone is interested.

The owner, Carol Froese suffered a stroke back on August 8, and is still hospitalized in Wichita, and that maybe the main reason for the closing.

They have not made it official that they are closing yet, but they did start a 20% off sale at the store.

If they should close, it would effect five workers according Holly Pennington, the manager of the store.

Décor has been in existence since 1983 and was originally at 20 West 1st, but their building was destroyed in the gas explosions back on January 17, 2001. That’s when natural gas stored underground northwest of Hutchinson leaked into empty brine caverns and then was ignited and blew up not only the Décor building, but also Woody’s Furniture next door. The next day, another explosion destroyed a trailer park in east Hutchinson killing two people.

Décor has been at its current location at 10 South Main in Hutchinson since shortly after the explosions.

Interestingly, Hayes Home Furnishing is also planning to close in the near future. They were known as Woody’s when the gas explosions occurred.

Anyone interested in buying Decor’s should contact the business for information at 665-0441.
