HUTCHINSON, Kan. — While sales fell overall, the second quarter numbers for Siemens Gamesa were still positive. SG, which overtook Vestas last year to become the world’s No. 1 wind turbine maker, said on Friday its order book remained steady in the second quarter, citing record onshore order intake and stabilizing prices.

Still, sales for the wind turbine maker dropped by 29 percent to $2.68 billion, although profits were at $41.7 million following a loss in the first quarter.

Second quarter order intake for its onshore business stood at 2.5 GW, up 54 percent from a year earlier. The increase in orders has allowed the company to call back a large number of workers laid off from the Hutchinson and Fort Madison, Iowa, facilities last fall.
