
CHANUTE, Kan. — Hutchinson Community College had an equal opponent in Neosho County Community College Wednesday night, but came away with an 87-78 win.
In the first quarter, the score was tied at 10-10 for almost two minutes. Neosho’s Jessica Jones broke that tie with a three-pointer with 3:20 left.
The Dragons were close behind the Panthers throughout the second quarter, but finally took the lead at 32-31 on a pair of Dejanae Roebuck free throws. Roebuck was the top scorer for the Dragons with 15 points. Eleven of those points came from the free throw line.
Hutchinson put up 27 points in the third quarter to go up 10.
Both teams struggled with turnovers. Hutchinson gave the ball away 29 times, while the Panthers committed 31 turnovers.
Free throws lifted the Blue Dragons to an 87-78 victory. The Dragons made a school record 39 free throws in the contest.
