The Hutchinson Community College women’s soccer team’s upcoming weekend became a little less ominous.

Originally, the 1-1 Blue Dragons were to play three games in three days. That has changed thanks to a major hurricane churning in the Atlantic Ocean.

First and foremost, the Blue Dragons will play host to the Redlands Cougars (1-1) at 2 p.m. Friday at Don Michael Field. The game was originally scheduled to be played at 6 p.m. at the Salthawk Sports Complex. But with rain in the forecast and the new SSC natural playing surface still in the maturing stage, the Blue Dragons will play their third-straight home game at Don Michael Field (17th and Severance).

The Dragons were supposed to play No. 5 Navarro and Rose State in Wichita on Saturday and Sunday, but Eastern Florida State decided not to come to Kansas as that campus is in the direct bulls-eye of Hurricane Dorian. With EFSC out, the Blue Dragons also dropped out of the tournament to help with many scheduling problems, most of all a short-handed Dragon team playing three games in three days.

Last week, Hutchinson defeated Trinidad State 4-0, but dropped a tough 1-0 decision to Indian Hills.

Sophomore midfielder Cameron Rodriguez produced her first career multi-goal game with a pair of goals in the victory over Trinidad State. Freshman goalkeeper Chiara Soergel had eight saves, the most by a Blue Dragon keeper in her debut in team history.

The Blue Dragons mustered only two shots on goal in a 1-0 loss to Indian Hills.

The Cougars won their season opener over North Lake College, 3-2, but dropped a 2-0 decision to Pratt on Wednesday. The Cougars will be playing their first road game of the season on Friday.

Sophomore Anna Zimms has two goals this season to lead Redlands.
