HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Powered by a pair of victories over nationally ranked teams, the Hutchinson
Community College football team made a major move into the NJCAA Top 10 on Tuesday.
The 2-0 Blue Dragons are No. 7 in the first NJCAA regular-season rankings of the season that were released on Tuesday. That’s a jump of nine spots from the Blue Dragons’ preseason starting point of No. 16.
Through the first two weeks of the season, the Blue Dragons won at No. 18 Coffeyville 34-29 and then upended No. 6 Iowa Western 21-12 on Saturday at Gowans Stadium.
The Blue Dragons are one of four Jayhawk Conference teams in the Top 20. Butler is now No. 3, Garden City – Hutchinson’s next opponent on Sept. 17 at Gowans Stadium – went from unranked to No. 14, and Dodge City dropped 11 spots to No. 19. Coffeyville is still receiving votes.
Trinity Valley is the new No. 1 team in the rankings. East Mississippi dropped a 27-25 decision on the road and dropped to No. 12.
The Top 5 has Trinity Valley (2-0), Snow (2-0), Butler (1-0), Copiah-Lincoln (1-0) and Arizona Western (2-0).
The Blue Dragons have a bye week on Saturday before taking on Garden City at Noon on Sept. 17 at Gowans Stadium.
