HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A pretrial hearing for a 37-year-old Newton man busted for allegedly selling methamphetamine in Reno County worked out well for him, at least for now.

The state alleges that John Clary had a sellers quantity of methamphetamine back on Oct. 2, 2012 and was facing trial on for having between 3.5 grams and 100 grams at the time of his arrest.

But, during negotiations over a possible plea Monday morning, District Attorney Keith Schroeder decided to drop the charges, at least for now. He’s dropping the case without prejudice, meaning they can refile charges at a later date.
