HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 39-year-old Haven man who entered pleas in two cases was sentenced Friday afternoon to prison.

Ryan Peterson was given less time than the state wanted and more time than the defense wanted.

He entered “guilty” pleas in one case that goes back to May 23, 2014, after a drug search was conducted at a home here in Hutchinson where meth, a scale, precursors to manufacturing meth and other prescription drugs were found.

In the other case, he was charged with the manufacture of meth as well, but the state dropped that charge as part of the agreement. However, he did enter pleas to two counts of being in possession of stolen property with that case going back to June 6, 2012.

The state wants just under 13 years in prison, while the defense a lesser sentence of around seven years. Because one of the convictions is for manufacturing meth, the defense cannot seek a non-prison sanction. Judge Trish Rose agreed to depart some and sentenced him to just under nine years in prison.

The state argued he didn’t deserve a break because of prior convictions including possession of drugs, unlawful manufacturing and possession of a precursor to manufacture. Those convictions go back to February of 2006.
