Allegedly drunk driver crashes into church’s concrete barrier

HAVEN, Kan. — Alcohol may have been a factor in a one-vehicle accident early Sunday morning.

It happened just before 12:30 a.m. at Yoder Road and Longview when sheriff’s deputies made contact with 21-year-old Houston Shelton of Colorado.

Sheriff’s officials say Shelton was southbound on Yoder Road in his pickup when he crossed the center, exited the left side of the road and struck the embankment at Longview Road. He continued southbound and struck the concrete barrier for Journey At Yoder church on the southeast corner of the intersection.

Shelton had injuries to his face and was bleeding. He was evaluated and transported by Reno County EMS to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries. After treatment, he was arrested for DUI and illegal transportation of liquor. He was also cited for not wearing a seat belt.
