It’s a sad time for those of us in broadcasting here in Hutchinson. Longtime announcer and radio personality Stephen Nellans of Haven died this past Saturdayat Promise Regional Medical Center after a battle with cancer.

He was born on March 16, 1959 in Norton, Kansas.

Nellans worked for what used to be known as Nations Center Broadcasting, former owners of KWBW and KHUT. Later he worked on and off at Ad Astra Broadcasting in Hutchinson.

In 1984, he married Lois Ulbrich at Haven. She survives along with is his two sons and four daughters, two sisters, eight grandchildren, and two nephews and a niece.

Nellans will always be known for his constant laughing, always finding humor out of almost any situation.

His funeral will be Wednesday at Mt. Hope Federated Church in Mt. Hope. Visitation will be Tuesday at Ott Funeral Home in Haven from 6 p-m to 8 p-m. Memorials may be sent to the Stephen Nellans Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home at 102 N. Wichita, Haven, Kansas, 67543.
