HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Hutchinson Monarchs fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 9-2 loss to Great Bend Bat Cats on Wednesday.

Great Bend Bat Cats scored on a 2 RBI single by Dawson Pomeroy in the first inning and a single by Ryan Monson in the second inning.

The Hutchinson Monarchs struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Great Bend Bat Cats, giving up nine runs.

Great Bend then scored four runs in the fourth inning with Monson, Pomeroy, and Hunter Romero, each had RBIs in the inning.

Conrad Hansel was the starting pitcher for Great Bend Bat Cats and got the win. He allowed eight hits and two runs over six and two-thirds innings, striking out three. Matt Hopkins started for Hutchinson Monarchs and took the loss. He surrendered eight runs on nine hits over three and a third innings. Ty Clark and Dawson Linder entered the game as relief, throwing four innings and one and two-thirds innings respectively.

The Monarchs did collected nine hits on the day with Taylor Barber, Brayden Whitchurch, and Garrett Stephens each had multiple hits. Barber went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Hutchinson Monarchs in hits. On a bright note, the Monarchs was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error.

Great Bend Bat Cats scattered 14 hits in the game. Monson, Pomeroy, Nolan Riley, Brady Michel, and Brenden Tauber all collected multiple hits for Great Bend Bat Cats. Monson led Great Bend Bat Cats with three hits in five at bats.

Thursday nights game will be the last home game for the Monarchs with Mulvane coming to town.  First pitch will be at 7:00 with this game being broadcast on hutchpost.com.  Playoff action starts Monday night at Eck Stadium in Wichita.
