Escaped inmate in Sedgwick County is back in custody

WICHITA – The Sedgwick County inmate who escaped from the Sedgwick County Detention facility is back in custody.

Back on February 26, 2011, Sean Mckenzie escaped from custody when he and two other facility trustees were escorted outside to take out trash.

McKenzie then allegedly headed west towards the apartment complex at Central and Waco. Unarmed deputies gave chase on foot until it was deemed unsafe for them to continue the chase. The sheriff’s office and Wichita Police did an extensive search that night, but failed to locate him.

A warrant was issued for his arrest, and on Tuesday, Wichita Police were able to track him down in the 3200 block of Wildwood Circle in Wichita.

McKenize is in the Sedgwick County Jail on burglary, theft and drug possession charges.
