A 42-year-old Hutchinson man who was recently released from prison finds himself in trouble again after he apparently got into an altercation with a neighbor in the 200 block of East B. This occurring Monday evening.
Derren Lovell was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery, aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, and felony theft. He made a first appearance on the charges Wednesday morning where he requested a reduction of his bond of 21-thousand dollars. That was denied.
According to Hutchinson Police, Lovell and a neighbor, Jamie Moeller apparently got into a fight with Moeller ending up with a busted jaw and nasal cavity. He apparently didn’t call anyone over the exchange including police. He then went to bed. Lovell apparently went into Moeller’s apartment allegedly over concern for his welfare, but then allegedly stole from him.
Moeller woke up Tuesday morning and discovered items missing. It was then that he called police and they came to investigate. They ended up doing a search of Lovell’s apartment and allegedly found the item taken from Moeller.
Police also convinced Moeller that he needed to seek treatment for his injuries. He did go to the hospital where they confirmed that he suffered a broken jaw and naval cavity.
He had just been released from prison back on May 10, after serving time for a drug conviction that goes back to 2007, but has also served time for but has also served time for aggravated battery, intimidation of witness, and theft for convictions from 2002.
He is expected back in court next Wednesday, or sooner if the state files formal charges.
