HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A man with mental issues involving making criminal threats has been charged with having a homemade knife while in the Reno County Correctional Facility.

Justin Reyna was just given one year in the county jail, but then granted probation for a year. This for a conviction of giving a false alarm. The second count of aggravated criminal threat was dismissed by the state as part of a plea agreement. These crimes occurred back on March 31, 2016.

The charge of trafficking in contraband in a correction’s facility involving the homemade knife occurred on Sept. 21, 2016.

Reyna served time in prison for convictions of criminal threat and aggravated criminal threat for crimes in Pratt County occurring in June of 2010. During that period, he apparently spent some time at the prisons in Hutchinson, El Dorado and the Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility and, through all three, had an extensive disciplinary report with 53 entries by our count.

In court, he requested a reduction of the bond, saying that he has set up appointments at Horizons Mental Health. The state opposed any reduction, but Judge Trish Rose agreed to lower the bond from $10,000 to $5,000, however, he’ll be on court services supervision while he waits for the new case to move through the court system.
