A former volunteer firefighter in Reno County entered guilty pleas Thursday to setting three grass fires as part of a plea agreement with the state. Cody Knox had been charged with 14-counts of arson, but the state dropped the other 11 counts. .

These charges stem from fires occurring between October 16, through November 27, 2012. here in Reno County. All of them occurring within a few miles of the city of Arlington.

At the time of the fires, Knox was attending Hutchinson Community College studying fire science and was a volunteer member of Reno County District 4 Fire Department.

After he allegedly set the last fire, he apparently wrecked his truck and broke his arm. He claims he was headed to the reported grass fire, but sheriff officials believe he was trying to get away from the last fire he set.

Sentencing is now set for October 18, at 10:30 a-m, in front of Judge Tim Chambers.
