Experienced Skydiver killed in Sedgwick County

WICHITA – Tuesday morning, Sedgwick County Sheriff Deputies were sent to the scene of a skydiving accident at Cook Airfield at 7015 South 143rd Street East. 64-year-old John Gallagher of Wichita, was found dead due to injuries sustained while sky diving.

Gallagher and another skydiver jumped at an altitude of 10-thousand feet. Both deployed their parachutes at 4-thousand feet.

Although Gallaghers jump partner landed safely, Gallagher experienced complications between his parachute deployment and his landing. Witnesses said Gallagher’s parachute appeared to become tangled.

Sheriff officials say Gallagher was an experienced skydiver with over 4-thousand jumps.

The accident is still under investigation with the FAA assisting.
