ARLINGTON – It appears no one was in the small sod home that was destroyed by fire Thursday afternoon near Arlington.

According to Emergency Management Director, Bill Guy, District 4 fire units arrived to find the structure fully engulfed and fought it as a defensive fire.

The District 4, Assistant Fire Chief, Adam Pickett says the structure is considered a total loss, however, no dollar amount has been placed on the building at this time, and the chief says he doesn’t know what the cost would be.

He says a wood stove inside the structure is what they’re looking at as the cause, but couldn’t confirm that to us Wednesday. They think it may have caught the hay on the roof on fire.

He says he likened to the size of a single-car garage, however he says they may have been in the process of adding to the building, but only the main part of the sod house is where the fire occurred.

The structure was located at 11801 South Peace Road between Lake Cable Road and Greenfield Road. This would be about 3-miles northwest of Arlington.

The fire reported around noon and again considered a total loss, but the good news is that no one was injured.
