Fire units were called to a house fire at 527 East 5th just after 3 p-m Friday afternoon.

Hutchinson Battalion Fire Chief Mike Miller says when he arrived, he could heavy smoke coming from a middle window on the west side of the home. That was where a bedroom was located, and that’s where the fire is believed to have started.

He says the reporting party says they kicked in the front door and thought they heard music playing as if someone was home. But, the first crew inside the home confirmed there was no one inside and the home owner then arrived and confirmed that everyone was outside. He says no one was injured.

The first fireman were able to get the fire inside under control very quickly.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, but Westar crews were there as quick as the fireman and quickly shut off electric service to the home.

The American Red Cross was called into to assist the family. Its appears the exterior of the home didn’t suffer that much damage, but the inside suffered about 15-to-20 thousand dollars in damage from the fire, heat and smoke.
