HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Firefighters were busy Friday with a couple of calls. The first came Friday morning around 9:50 when crews responded to 821 E. 1st for a reported structure fire.

Firefighters found light smoke on the porch area and the fire was quickly extinguished. It was contained to the porch area with no extension into the residence.

Several discarded cigarettes were found in the area of fire origin. No injuries were reported.

Then around 1:45 p.m., fire crews responded to 703 15th Circle for another reported structure fire.

They arrived on scene and initiated fire attack on a working fire of a duplex with one unit involved. The fire origin was reported at the HVAC system and did extend into the floor duct work.

An extensive overhaul was performed by fire crews. The fire was contained to the one unit with light smoke damage to the second unit.

No injuries were reported and occupants in both units were home at the time of the call. The fire was noted with an undetermined cause following investigation.
