HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, fire units were dispatched to a residential structure fire at 1005 W. 1st.

First units reported a fully-involved fire coming from the back side of the home. The fire extended into the attic area before the fire was brought under control in 20 minutes. The home was occupied and all escaped without injury.

There was heavy damage to the rear of the residence and the attic area. Residents advised the fire started from construction lighting located next to the rear of the structure that was powered by an extension cord.

This is the second residential fire in the last two days. The Hutchinson Fire Department reminds everyone to test their smoke detectors and be on the lookout for any fire hazards around their homes.
