The Hutchinson Fire Department responded to a structure fire Tuesday morning, According to the news release crews were called out just before 5:30 to the 600 block of east 2nd Avenue.
Upon arrival, units a smoldering fire in the attic. The home was occupied at the time of the fire by 4 adults. No injuries were reported. The residents called the fire department after the ceiling fan had fallen in the kitchen. The residents reported smelling smoke in the residence a few hours prior to calling the fire department.
Units were on the scene for approximately 2 hours. Damage was contained to the kitchen area,with the ceiling and insulation being removed. Structure damage is estimated at 5,000 dollars.
Preliminary cause of the fire appears to be electrical with the exact cause of the fire still being investigated.
The Red Cross was called to assist the residents.
