HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Just before noon Sunday, Hutchinson firefighters responded to 1101 N. Mayfield Rd. for a reported structure fire.

Units reported an extensive fire coming from a single-story metal garage and shop. The fire was brought under control in 15 minutes, but the shop sustained heavy damage.

The owner was home at the time of the fire and called 911. That person was treated by crews on scene for possible smoke inhalation. The homeowner later refused treatment on the scene and was not transported to the hospital.

The cause of the fire appears to be improper burning.
