HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Despite a lack of rain, area lakes are not looking too bad. The latest fishing forecast for the year is looking pretty good at the two area lakes visited most by central Kansas residents.

According to officials at Kanopolis State Park, this summer’s fishing season should be good. The park says there have been some changes in limits for walleye and saugeye, with length limits increased from 15 to 18 inches.

Other than that, all types of fishing should be good throughout the season. At Cheney — the news is the same — as fishing should be pretty solid according to Andrew Shafer, fishing biologist for the Kansas Department of Wildlife.

Despite a lack of rain, the lake is only down a little and fishing is off to a good start.

The news is good for anglers as Memorial Day quickly approaches.
