Despite the city’s Landmarks Commission efforts to keep a run down building in tact, the Hutchinson City Council voted to take action against a small piece of property located at 415 South Main and four others during Tuesdays agenda session. The action taken by the council essentially gives land owners 30-days to respond with making significant repairs, or with legitimate plans to do so, or have the building razed.

The Landmarks Commission wanted the building saved due to its close location to the Kelly Mills Building which is on the National Register of Historic Places. But, the council had no intention of keeping the building in tact since the landmarks commission has no funding to put the building into a state of good repair nor does the Hutch Main Street group. The owner has been absent from any meetings and has been out of touch with the city about the property which is severely run down. With that, the council voted to deny the Landmarks Commission request to save the building. That property and the other four at 101 east Bigger, 825 South Main, 1808 East 4th Avenue and 427 Sherman were all condemned by the city.
