HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A former Hutchinson Community College student convicted of selling drugs at the college was granted three years community corrections with an underlying sentence of nine years.

Raashid Jamal Arnold was sentenced for possession of marijuana with intent to sell, conspiracy to distribute drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute, as well as two misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Hutchinson Police were told that Arnold was selling drugs out of his vehicle in one of the parking lots at the college. That led to a search of his dorm room where they allegedly found drugs and paraphernalia. They later located him and he gave consent to search his vehicle. Officers again found drugs, as well as a magazine to an assault rifle. He informed them that it belonged to a friend, Jalen Cooks. His car was parked directly next to Arnold’s and they allegedly found drugs, shotgun shells and the assault rifle in that vehicle.

Arnold is suspected of selling drugs from his vehicle in one of the parking lots at the college.

Cooks was charged in the case for allegedly being a part of a conspiracy. His case is still pending.

Both the state and the defense recommended the corrections because of Arnold’s lack of criminal history.
