A former Kansas legislative candidate who narrowly lost in the primary to Democrat Jan Paul’s was sentenced Thursday by Municipal Court Judge Tad Dower.

Erich Bishop had been arrested on Christmas Eve for a domestic situation with an man and woman at a private residence. Bishop was also charged with kicking a police officer while being arrested.

He was given 30-days on each count, consecutive to each other. That included three convictions for battery of a law enforcement officer, domestic battery and assault. He was also fined 75-dollars on each count. Judge Dower then placed him on 12-months probation, that according to Municipal Court Documents obtained by Eagle Radio. Other fines include a 120-dollar probation fee and a 10-dollar fingerprint fee. He’s also not allowed to consume alcohol during the probation period. The no contact order has been lifted by the judge at the request of the victims.

Bishop narrowly lost the August 2012 Democratic primary to Rep. Jan Pauls by a mere eight votes, following a campaign that centered largely on Pauls’ opposition to gay rights in the state.
