A former Nickerson man who has several warrants for failing to appear in a number of criminal cases is back in custody.
29-year-old Zachary Lawson now has bonds totaling 1-million, 50-thousand, 500-dollars after he appeared in front of Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen.
In addition to the numerous charges he faces, he can add six counts of failing to appear and indirect contempt of court.
He’s one of three men charged in a case from last year involving the alleged kidnapping and beating of a Nickerson man. Lawson had been ordered to have a GPS device attached to him, but it appears that court order is not being honored.
Lawson is charged with aggravated kidnapping, conspiracy to commit aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated burglary, aggravated intimidation of a witness, criminal threat, possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, anabolic steroids and criminal use of weapon.
He along with 26-year-old Jeremia Palmer, and 28-year-old Jedrik Smith are charged for the alleged kidnapping and beating of 28-year-old Larry McVey. There was a hearing scheduled last month was for both Lawson and Palmer in this case, but that was continued at the request of Deputy District Attorney Tom Stanton saying he didn’t want the witnesses to have to testify multiple times. It appears now, they will try to have a hearing for all three defendants in this case at the same time.
In another case, involving two counts of felony flee and elude, he was scheduled to go to trial but again was a no show. That case goes back to September 23, 2011, when he allegedly led officers on a chase twice on the same day.
He also faces charges of possession of stolen property, possession of marijuana, and defacing a vehicle serial number. That case from February 21st, of this year. The second case was from August 25, 2011, where he’s charged with possession of stolen property, for allegedly having a Mustang Skid Steer, taken from Nisley Construction. The third case concerned the criminal threat allegedly made against Palmer. He allegedly threatened him with physical violence back on October 29, 2011.
He was apparently captured in Arkansas after a traffic stop and apparently had a large amount of guns and knives with him. He will face charges in that state over that issue as well as any traffic charges.
