One of three men charged in a case from last year involving the alleged kidnapping and beating of a Nickerson man and who was recently ordered to have GPS device attached to him was expected in court Monday afternoon, but he was a no show.
Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen issued a bench warrant for the arrest of 29-year-old Zachary Lawson with a bond of 28-thousand.
Lawson is charged with aggravated kidnapping, conspiracy to commit aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated burglary, aggravated intimidation of a witness, criminal threat, possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, anabolic steroids and criminal use of weapon.
He apparently failed to show in court at least one other time according to Assistant District Attorney Andrew Davidson.
The cases that were scheduled for a preliminary hearing Monday included possession of stolen property, possession of marijuana, and defacing a vehicle serial number. That case from February 21st, of this year.
The second case was from August 25, 2011, where he’s charged with possession of stolen property, for allegedly having a Mustang Skid Steer, taken from Nisley Construction.
The third case on the docket Monday concerned the criminal threat allegedly made against a co-defendant in the kidnapping case, 26-year-old Jeremia Palmer. He allegedly threatened Palmer with physical violence back on October 29, 2011.
Other cases pending included domestic battery and felony flee and elude.
He along with Palmer, and 28-year-old Jedrik Smith are charged in the kidnapping case after the report of the beating. That led to a search warrant being served on his home in Nickerson on Sunday September 11, 2011. The alleged beating and kidnapping case started after the alleged victim, 28-year-old Larry McVey made the report to the Reno County Sheriff’s Office.
The hearing in that case is scheduled for preliminary hearing Thursday, and ironically, the hearing will be for both he and Palmer, the man Lawson allegedly threatened.
That hearing is also in front of Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen.
