Freeman Is Co-Jayhawk Conference Men’s Player of the Week

mbb110613Hutchinson Community College freshman forward DeShawn Freeman had a memorable debut weekend for the Blue Dragon men’s basketball team. The weekend was capped off when he was named the Jayhawk Conference co-Player of the Week for Week No. 1.

A 6-foot-7 forward from Rocky Mount, N.C., had a tremendous debut for the Blue Dragons in a pair of victories in the Quarterback Classic last weekend. For the week, Freeman averaged 20.5 points and shot 66.7 percent from the floor. He also averaged 9.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.0 steals.

In his first game at a Blue Dragon against Trinidad State, Freeman scored 15 points on 5 of 6 shooting and had eight rebounds.

He then posted his first collegiate double-double with 26 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists against Jayhawk East opponent Labette. Freeman was 9 of 15 shooting.

Freeman shared the weekly conference honor with Barton’s Darius Gibson.
