HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Although the average gas price in Kansas moved upward again this past week, the price is still lower than a year ago, and four years ago, when the state average was $3.72.

Prices locally are as low as $2.05 per gallon, but most gas stations are sitting at $2.09 as of Tuesday morning, according to Gas Buddy.com.

Lawrence saw a large jump of 13 cents to $2.28 this past week, as well as Salina, which saw a 12 cent increase.

Several other locations saw a double-digit increase on their average as well. The lowest averages in Kansas are at Leoti, with $1.99, and Powhattan, Mayetta and Cedar Vale at $2.00. The highest was found in Howard at $2.40.

According to a AAA survey, 55 percent of Americans say they are more likely to take a road trip this year due to lower gas prices and Americans are expected to purchase about 400 million gallons of gasoline each day over Labor Day weekend at an aggregate cost of about $880 million per day.
