WICHITA – Kansas Wesleyan’s Brett Giesen (Junior, Laguna Niguel, Calif.) totaled a NAIA leading 256 rushing yards to earn Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Player of the Week honors. Tabor College’s Justin Vargas (Junior, Palmdale, Fla.) and Austin Ledy (Junior, St. Marks, Kan.) of Southwestern College also earn weekly honors.
Offensive Player of the Week belongs to Kansas Wesleyan University Running Back Brett Giesen for the second consecutive week. The 5-11, 175 lb. Junior earns his third KCAC player of the week award by rushing for a career high 256 yards in a winning effort against McPherson College on Saturday afternoon. Giesen averaged 6.7 yards per attempt (38) and scored four touchdowns during the 38 to 37 Coyote victory. During the effort, Giesen eclipsed 1000 yards rushing in a season for the first time in his career. His 256 yards against the Bulldogs is tops in the NAIA for any single game rushing performance this year.
Justin Vargas is awarded Defensive Player of the Week as Tabor College wins over conference opponent Southwestern College, 17 to 13. The 6-0, 220 lb. Junior Linebacker recorded 1.0 solo tackles, assisted on 2.0 tackles, recovered a fumble, and intercepted a pass. Vargas returned his interception for a touchdown, giving the Bluejays a forth quarter lead.
Southwestern College Junior Austin Ledy earns his second Special Teams Player of the Week award for his performance in a 13 to 17 away loss at Tabor College. The 6-0, 190 lb Kicker was perfect on scoring attempts, hitting two field goals including a long of 50 yards and a PAT. Ledy kicked off four times for 253 yards and punted six times for 188 yards.
All KCAC Players of the Week will also be nominated for NAIA National Player of the Week honors, which will be announced later this week.
