LENEXA (AP) – Republican presidential Newt Gingrich is scrapping plans for a campaign stop ahead of the Kansas caucuses to focus his efforts on key Southern states.

KMBC-TV in Kansas City reports that State Rep. Scott Schwab, an Olathe Republican who is a member of Gingrich’s Kansas leadership team, said Wednesday that the former House speaker had decided to cancel stops in the state, which included a stop in Hutchinson on Saturday.

Gingrich was also expected to make stops in Overland Park, Topeka, Wichita and Kansas City, Kansas on Friday, ahead of Saturday’s GOP caucuses. He was also scheduled to appear Saturday in Wichita and Hutchinson during the caucuses.

Gingrich won Tuesday in his home state of Georgia and is turning his efforts to other upcoming Southern contests.
