HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Numbers released from Reno County officials show they collected $40,578 for the Mortgage Registration Tax in August which was a jump from July when the county collected $26,349. That’s also well above August of last year when the total was just under $28,000.

The Recording Fee collections in August also increased over July. The county collected $29,152 in August compared to July when the total then was $22,263. That is also more then August of last year when the total collected was $17,234.

Eventually, the registration tax will be eliminated and the recording fee increases, however most counties worry that this won’t be enough to offset the revenue lost from the elimination of mortgage tax.
