HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Graber Elementary School was placed on lockdown late Thursday afternoon. School District Spokesperson Ray Hemman says a notice was sent to parents late Thursday afternoon:

“Shortly before the final bell at Graber Elementary School today, 911 dispatchers called the school and asked that it be locked down because of a report of suspicious individuals near the school. Staff immediately locked down the school.

Hutchinson Police Department officers responded and found two teenagers on the adjacent Don Michael Field wearing Halloween costumes and shooting a YouTube video. The teens also had a piece of PVC pipe as a prop, which could look like a knife from a distance.

Once police talked to the two individuals, the Graber lockdown was lifted, but it made the final bell about 10 minutes late for Graber students and staff. Since tomorrow is a records/in-service day for staff, it was the final bell of the week for students as well.

There were no injuries and no arrests were made.
