GREAT BEND – Police in Great Bend were involved in a high-speed chase early Friday morning.
Just after midnight Friday morning, an officer attempted to stop a Dodge Dakota pickup at 2nd and Heizer in Great Bend for not having a tag or a working taillight. The vehicle fled eastbound on 2nd street, turned south onto Frey Street, and then ran through the flood control gate.
The vehicle then drove up on the dike, and continued driving on the dike eastbound approximately a mile-and-a-half east of the city limits where he struck another flood control gate.
The subject then fled from his vehicle and was not located. Great Bend Street Department is in the process of getting an estimate on the amount of damages to the levy and its fencing.
Police are still investigating the incident.
