Group to sue over new Kan. abortion clinic rules

TOPEKA (AP) – A national abortion rights group says it will file a new federal lawsuit over revised regulations in Kansas for abortion providers.

The New York-based Center for Reproductive Rights said Thursday the revised health and safety regulations, although different than a set of rules enacted in June, are still unreasonable. The state health department published the new set Thursday.

The center represents Dr. Herbert Hodes and his daughter, Dr. Traci Nauser. They perform abortions and provide other services at their medical offices in the Kansas City suburb
of Overland Park.

The center filed suit on behalf of the two doctors in late June, as the health department prepared to enforce regulations mandated by the Legislature. A judge blocked enforcement of the rules until the lawsuit was heard.
