HAYSVILLE, (Kan.) — Austin Southmayd did his best to change the outcome, but Austin couldn’t guide Hutchinson Monarchs past Haysville Aviators as Hutchinson Monarchs lost 6-2 at Carpenter Complex on Saturday.

Haysville Aviators had no answer for Austin, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Haysville Aviators managed just one hit off of Southmayd, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during his two innings of work.

Spencer Goebel got the win for Haysville Aviators. He allowed one run over four innings. He struck out two, walked three and surrendered two hits.

Tyler Franek was the game’s losing pitcher. He allowed six runs in three innings, walked four and struck out one.

Haysville Aviators went up for good in the first, scoring two runs on a two-run single by Jake Baxter.

Haysville Aviators built upon its lead with three runs in the second. A error scored Troy Anderson to get Haysville Aviators on the board in the inning. That was followed up by Nate Clark’s double, plating Evan VanSumeren.

One run in the top of the sixth helped Hutchinson Monarchs close its deficit to 6-2. A groundout by Michael Herman gave Hutchinson Monarchs life. Finally, John Monnig got Jace Bowman to strike out to end the threat.
