An 18-year-old Topeka man, apparently going to school at Hutchinson Community College was arrested Monday for three counts of burglary, possession of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

Shaun Banks is accused of entering the dorm rooms belonging to females at the college. Police say they have him on video entering the rooms.

There were actually five female students reporting that someone had entered their unlocked rooms and took miscellaneous electronic items and cash, but so far he has only been charged with three counts of burglary.

Banks was arrested at his room at 1501 North Ford, Room 311, and at the time of his arrest apparently had some marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his possession.

He made a first appearance on the charges Tuesday morning, and Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen granted him an 18-thousand dollar signature, or own recognizance bond. However, where he’ll be staying is unclear, because he was advised of criminal trespass at Hutchinson Community College, meaning that if he’s caught on the grounds again, he could again be arrested.

He’ll be back in court on May 16, for a status hearing in the case.
