Kyann Eslick, Nadine Cruz and Page Hiebert all had at least seven kills and hit .368 or better to lead the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team to a key early Jayhawk West sweep of Seward County on Wednesday in the home opener at the Sports Arena.

Hutchinson trailed by four points in the middle stages of the first set and then outscored the Saints 65-35 over the final 2 1/2 sets for a 25-18, 25-14, 25-17 victory.

Hutchinson, Seward County and Colby were the top three preseason picks in the coaches’ poll. The Dragons – now 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the Jayhawk West – have key, early victories over both the Saints and Trojans. The Blue Dragons will play again next Wednesday when Garden City comes to the Sports Arena for a 6:30 p.m. Jayhawk West match.
