Reno County District Judge Trish Rose has now set a date and time for a hearing over the states motion to amend the complaint against a Hutchinson man suspected in the murder of Jennifer Heckel.

The state wants to add an additional charge of aggravated intimidation of a witness against Charles Logsdon stating that on April 19, he threatened another inmate in the county jail from testifying against him. Matthew Mounce is apparently listed as a states witness and while in the recreation area of the Reno County jail, Logsdon accused Mounce of being a “snitch” and indicated that he may be “harmed or killed” for his statements to police or testimony he might give in the murder case.

It was back on March 13, that Mounce was interviewed by Senior Special Agent Jeff Newsum with the KBI regarding statements Logsdon allegedly made in relation to the Heckel murder. He told the investigator that Logsdon had made a number of incriminating statements including such statements as, “when I shot the bitch, her purse was right there.” He also allegedly made comments on how she fell when he shot her.

Logsdon then apparently made statements about what he told Mounce to his mother in a phone conversation from the jail. The state alleges that he admitted to the threats made against Mounce.

The state wants to add the charge saying its directly relevant to the charge of murder and will be admissible at trial as evidence of the defendant’s “consciousness of guilt.”

The state adding that charge will require an additional preliminary hearing and that may be part of the hearing on Tuesday at 9:00 a-m.

Logsdon along with co-defendant Billy Craig, Jr., are charged with the murder of Jennifer Heckel last summer. Other charges include conspiracy to commit first degree murder, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Both men await a jury trial in separate courts over the killing.
