The preliminary hearing for a 31-year-old Hutchinson man arrested in connection with a shooting incident back on February 26 is in recess until June 20.

They did get through testimony in the first case which is alleged to have occurred in December of last year. In that case, Justin Gleason faces charges of attempted robbery, attempted aggravated burglary, criminal threat and blackmail, and three new charges, aggravated burglary, robbery, and aggravated battery. The new charges go back to an incident where the victim was struck with a bat, threatened and also forced to give 500-dollars over fear of his life.

Then on December 14 and 15, of last year, he allegedly sent text messages to the victim and told him he better have additional money, and was coming over to collect. We were originally told that it may be over drugs, but turns out, it was over cash.

Apparently, Gleason has been paying the victim to rent a car for him through Enterprise Rental. But, around the first of December of last year, the victim told Gleason he would no longer do that for him, but alleges Gleason threatened to kill him, saying he would, “bury him under the city.” He says the defendant showed at his home, struck him with a blue aluminum bat, and also slapped him in the face several times. He testified that he eventually did give Gleason 500-dollars because of fear for his life, but then Gleason wanted more, so he then contacted police. They were waiting and he was arrested on the charges. That was back on December 15, 2011.

He was bound over for trial in that case, but they are still in the middle of the hearing involving seven counts of criminal discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, and one count of aggravated battery. He’s also facing drug charges after a shooting incident in the 1100 block of East Avenue C, back on February 26th. Numerous spent shells were found near the home with Daniel Coronado apparently struck in the foot, who underwent surgery for his injury. He testified Monday to about his wound, even showing the judge his scar. There were a total of five adults and two children where in the residence when the shooting occurred, but they were not injured.

Gleason also faces charges of possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of marijuana, criminal possession of a firearm, no tax stamp, possession of stolen property, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Allegedly drugs were found in the small home he lived in.

Again, the hearing is in recess with be continued on June 20, the same time that a co-defendant, Holly Caudillo will also face a hearing.
