Hutch Fire Crews responded to structure fire on East 1st (updated)

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Fire crews responded to the 600 block of East 1st for a reported structure fire yesterday morning.

Arriving units found smoke showing from the roof area of the structure, initiating fire attack procedures. The home was in the process of having shingles removed for future replacement however not ongoing at the time of the reported fire.

Residents were awakened by a family member and safely exited the structure with no injuries reported.

Investigation, along with the occupant’s description, determined electrical wiring within the attic space of the home was the cause of ignition.

The fire was extinguished with 15 minutes however crews remained on scene for salvage and overhaul procedures for a couple of hours. Damage to the home is estimated at $7,500 as the fire was contained to the attic area.

The report coming in around 10:43 a.m.
