WICHITA – Sedgwick County Sheriff officials released the name of the man shot to death on by law enforcement near Cheney Monday. He’s 52-year-old Darren Baker of Wichita.

The shootout between Baker and law enforcement occurring on Parallel Road after a chase that started in Sedgwick County. Baker apparently got out of the vehicle he was in and fired at officers who then returned fire killing him. At least four officers from various agencies were involved.

It started around 12:45 p-m, with the report of a car-jacking in west Wichita. Then a short time later, a Goddard Police Officer attempted to make a traffic stop and Baker refused leading to the chase into Reno County and ended in the 3800 block of Parallel Road near Cheney Lake.

The four officers involved in the shooting were interviewed by the KBI and Sheriff detectives about the shooting and reports will be sent to District Attorney Keith Schroeder. The D-A will then review the reports and decide of the shooting of Baker was justified.

Baker is no stranger to law enforcement, having served time in the past for drugs, numerous convictions for driving while being an habitual violator, flee and elude and DUI, all out of Sedgwick County. He had been released from prison in March of 2005.
