A 46-year-old Hudson man convicted in a meth case from August of last year was denied any downward departure and ordered to serve 158-months in prison.

George Krankenberg was convicted of possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to package, possession of marijuana, and Valium, and a charge of not having a Kansas drug tax stamp.

His attorney, Charlie O’Hara argued that he should be granted some relief citing his health saying he doesn’t have much time to live, suffering frrom heart issues, and take insulin daily, but Deputy District Attorney Tom Stanton argues that he has continued to sell drugs over the past three decades, and even when released on bond in this case, he was again caught with more drugs. Apparently, he had another meth with intent to sell case pending before Judge Trish Rose.

The current case centers on Reno County Sheriff’s Deputies doing a search of his Chevy truck at K-96 and Sandcreek back on August 26 of last year. They allegedly found two ounces of meth, a zip lock bag of marijuana, a digital scale, and packaging materials. They also allegedly found 100 Valium pills in three different pill bottles with the labels torn off.

Also arrested in the case was 30-year-old Natalie Goin originally charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, entered a plea to a reduce charge of simple possession, and possession of drugs with no tax stamp. She was sentenced back in April and is currently on community corrections.

Judge Tim Chambers denied the departure motion and gave him a underlying sentence of 158-months in prison. The judge also set an appeal bond of 250-thousand dollars. That’s on top of the 100-hundred thousand dollar bond in the other case. But, most believe he will be able to post that bond.
