Hutch Couple Enter Pleas In Endangerment Case Over Spanking Of A Child

A Hutchinson couple each entered a plea to aggravated endangerment of a child avoiding a more severe charge of abuse of a child.

Jason and Michelle Robertson were accused of excessive punishment of Jason Robertson’s son from a previous marriage. The young boy who lives with his mother in Texas was staying with his father back on June 11, 2011. When the child went back to Texas, the mother apparently discovered bruising on the child’s body and took the child to a medical center in Texas where the doctor’s there suspected possible abuse.

Hutchinson Police were then contacted and led to the arrest of the couple. According to a statement of fact read into the record by District Attorney Keith Schroeder, the child was staying with his father during that time, and apparently used their hands and a flip-flop shoe to punish the child.

After the two were arrested, Jason Robertson told police that perhaps he spanked the young boy to hard.

With the plea agreement, the state will not seek any jail sanction and most likely both will be placed on some form of probation. The sentencing range for the charge is 5-17 months.

Sentencing for both will be on September 21.
