Hutchinson Police say that a man who went to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound may have accidentally shot himself.

18-year-old Jeffery Earickson told police when they arrived at the hospital that he was a victim of an attempted robbery, but after further questioning, they now believe that he accidentally shot himself in his right leg. The investigation is ongoing, but it is believed to be a self inflicted wound.

He had told police that the attempted robbery occurred somewhere on Jackson Street, but now it is believed to have occurred at a residence at 102 East F.

The incident was reported around 2:45 PM Monday.
