A 29-year-old Hutchinson man who was arrested after he allegedly left the scene of an accident managed to get his bond reduced while making a first appearance in District Court.

Chanc Rainey was arrested for five counts of aggravated battery, DUI, failure to report an accident, leaving the scene of an accident and running a stop sign.

It happened around 4:45 p-m, Sunday when Reno County Sheriff Deputies responded to an injury accident at 4th and Elm.

Rainey was northbound on Elm and allegedly ran the stop sign at 4th., His vehicle then collided with a vehicle driven by 27-year-old Ashley Nelson of Lucas, Kansas. After the collision, Rainey allegedly left the scene, but was located through witnesses at a home at 426 E 8th.

There were 4 passengers in the Pontiac, but only Nelson and a passenger, Braxton Nelson were treated for minor cuts at the scene. The others were apparently not injured.

Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen didn’t have any information on injuries, so he reduced the bond to 15-thousand dollars, from the original 27-thousand, 500-dollars.

He’ll be back in court on November 20.
