The 25-year-old Hutchinson man arrested back in early December after he reported to police that he sexually abused a 3-month-old child was bound over for trial Wednesday.

Michael Sherman charged by the state with aggravated criminal sodomy, after he allegedly admitted that he was alone with the child and was watching pornography on his cell phone, then sodomized the child.

His wife, Tashia testified during the preliminary hearing Wednesday that she had taken their other 3-year-old child to the church they attend on that Sunday morning, that being Apostolic Faith Tabernacle. Her husband was alone with the 3-month-old, and was to meet her at the church around 10:30 a-m that Sunday morning. They also attended the evening service, and says she knows he met with their preacher while at the church that evening.

When they got home after 11 p-m, he apparently told her that he did something that was going to kill their relationship, saying he did something terrible. He then told her what he had done. She then told him, he needed to turn himself in. Their preacher also apparently came to the home that night,and police were called in the early morning hours of December 5, and Sherman was then arrested. She sobbed through much of her testimony, but managed to make it through, without looking at her husband.

Hutchinson Police Detective Scott Carlton testified that he was told the Sherman actually took the child from her crib and placed her on the bed. He says he seized two maroon towels, the comforter, and the bed sheets to be tested.

Apparently, Sherman had visited two porn websites using a smart phone. Carlton say he checked the phone, but the browsing history had been erased. Carlton says when he interviewed him at the Law Enforcement Center, he was very remorseful for what he had done, and it apparently started in the kitchen of their home. During the hearing, he rarely looked at anyone staring mostly towards a wall in the courtroom.

Also on the stand Wednesday was Hutchinson Police Officer, Chad Turner who was called to the home in Hutchinson to take the initial report. That was around 12:38 a-m. and he says he arrived about 12-minutes later. Sherman was then arrested during those early morning hours of December 5, and taken to the Reno County Jail.

With him being bound over, arraignment in the case will be on April 2, in front of Judge Tim Chambers.

The case falls under Jessica’s Law provisions, meaning he could be looking at a life sentence with no chance of parole for 25-years, if convicted.

Because of the nature of the charge, there was extra security in the courthouse, with one officer saying there were some family members terribly upset over this case, so they weren’t taking any chances.
