A 19-year-old man arrested Wednesday on a charges of aggravated assault, defacing the identification marks on a firearm and two counts of misdemeanor theft after an incident at a local home was in court Thursday morning for a first appearance on the charges.

Tylor Schmidt asked for a reducton of his bond of 85-hundred dollars which was denied by Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen.

The case starts around 4:30 p-m, Wednesday when officers were dispatched to 522 East 6th, in reference to a possible hostage situation. Officers quickly diffused the situation and found that no one was being held hostage.

The investigation later revealed that Schmidt who has an apartment at that location threatened an acquaintance with a handgun. The handgun was recovered and police discovered that the serial number was defaced.

Schmidt was arrested and and he’ll be back next Wednesday, if not sooner, once the state files formal charges.
