Hutch man charged with aggravated arson for November fire

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A Hutchinson man has been arrested on a charge of aggravated arson after a fire damaged the Tierra Verde apartments last November.

Timothy Broadfoot is accused of setting the fire back on Nov. 22, 2017. The charge is a level 3 felony with a maximum sentence of over 20 years.

The fire was discovered on one of the upper floors and was quickly extinguished. Hutchinson investigators are still listing the fire as “under investigation” but did say they believe it was intentionally set.

The fire displaced about 20 individuals, who were aided by the Red Cross, at the time of the fire.

Broadfoot is jailed on a $45,000 bond. He was denied any relief from the bond when he appeared before a judge Monday. His case now moves to a waiver-status docket.
